Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange data between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encrypted, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the choices are limited as you shall not have root access to the server, so you can simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They're all actions that are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

When you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you would like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you can easily receive SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't include this feature by default, you can easily add it with a few clicks through the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the CP, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You can even pick what password you would like to use, as it does not need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a number of Help articles in which you can find all the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, as well as examples of how they are used. In addition, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to obtain SSH access to it with just a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you will be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you'll find the info which you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if required. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files via a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer you. A detailed list of the commands you can perform shall give you a better idea of what tasks you can perform in your account and each is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you buy a new VPS server from us, it shall provide full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything via an SSH console. The function is included as standard with all plans, so you will not have to enable or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up shortly after you get it and as soon as you receive the Welcome e mail with the login info, you may connect using the server’s main IP address and start working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions regarding the commands you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may set up and run any app that can work on a Linux hosting server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software running on it.
